It was only a matter of time before Vince Daniels had run for office. After years of working on the house staff for the senator of Massachusetts, he had finally decided that this was the year he was going to run. Of course, that meant that he was going to need to over throw the current senator, his current boss.

That conversation didn’t go over as swimmingly as Vince had hoped. How could it? The man that was his boss had a continuation plan, one that Vince had known about for the better part of the year. He had inside information that could potentially be deadly to his running mate. So, he was fired. On the spot. That only managed to light a fire under his ass.

This meant war and Vince wasn’t scared of the political game. For years he had watched how the strategy was planned. Mostly, he realized that a majority of politicians were charming when they needed to be and ruthless the next minute. A snake in the grass, as it were, and Vince wanted to play the game. He thrived for it. He wanted to take down his opponent and hold his position of power with little to no consequences. That would mean, of course, discretion, and thankfully, he had been playing that game for years.

His opponent would throw out words like incompetent, young and inexperienced. Vince was just those things. But he was also smart, charming and extremely clever and there had to be a way that he could sweep this out without anyone knowing any better. There had to be a way that he could make it seem like he was the better candidate, even if he knew that he was far from being the man for the job.

That was when it hit him. The entire staff that he worked for had bemoaned that Vince had insider information. Of course he did, he was part of that staff. Leaking out that information would simply make it look like he was a snitch, which is not what the voting public wanted out of their state representative. Oh no, he needed to think of something that could potentially damage him that he didn’t know. Would he lie? Would he cheat? They were all thoughts that he had while cleverly planning his campaign. It came to him. A private investigator.

A private investigator could be used to dig up the dirt that he needed. When it was all said and done, how would he handle it, though? Again, if he released the information, it would make him look entirely too shady. He needed something else. Something that was a bit more cunning. But first, he needed the dirt before he could even continue. So he sent his man out on the job to see what he could find. From there, Vince would think of something. He had to.

When the private investigator came back with the information, Vince couldn’t help but smile like the damn Cheshire cat. Oh, so he’s having an affair with an escort, how perfect. Vince didn’t even bother to find out how his guy had figured this information out, knowing his opponent was a man who could cover his tracks. It’s exactly where Vince had learned the technique in the first place. Still, he needed to think of a way to leak the information in a way that wasn’t obvious. He’d pay the girl off. He’d use a channel of men who could get to the woman and his name would never be attached to it, it was a genius idea.

It worked like a charm too. Perfectly timed right before the elections, when he saw that his opponent was up in the polls, the woman came forward, blowing his opponents good, hard working husband and father bullshit. The voters reacted in the way that Vince wanted too, which was only a bonus. And so he broke up an incredibly happy marriage and family of a man that he once admired.

This was politics. It was bound to be a little dirty.
